      Viera Hospital Shooting Incident Statement

      FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Official Statement of Brevard County Professional Firefighters Local 2969 re: Firefighter Safety

The Brevard County Professional Firefighters Local 2969 were saddened to hear of the tragedy that took place at Health First’s Viera Hospital on March 12, 2017. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and the hospital staff.

This situation has also brought to light certain safety concerns that the hard-working Firefighters and Paramedics of Brevard County may face at any given moment. It is clear that the dangers faced by Fire, EMS and Police departments all across our Nation have significantly increased over recent years. It is our main purpose as a Union to ensure that our members are kept safe to the best of our ability and able to return home to their families at the end of their shift.

IAFF Local 2969 plans to work tirelessly with Fire Rescue Management, County Leaders, local law enforcement and hospital staff all across our County to ensure the safety and well-being of our members, other first responders, and the public we proudly serve.

It is our goal to implement sound policies and safe practices to ensure all Fire Rescue members, as well as the citizens and guests of Brevard County, are kept as safe as possible while emergency units are rendering care to those in need, both while on the scene of an incident and during transport to the local Emergency Department.
